Monitor Goes Dull: Dear Mark, When I unplug my laptop from the power cable, my monitor goes dull and I find it hard to see what's on the screen. Is there any way to change this infuriating problem? Tim, Tregony.

Mark Says:

Dear, Tim. Yes, I had the same problem myself with my first laptop and it took years to find out the answer... Simply hold down the 'fn' key (it's the one beside the control key - 'ctrl' - on the bottom left of your keyboard). Then, whilst keeping that depressed, press the 'up' arrow key on the bottom right of your keyboard. That should do the trick!

Annoying Popups: Dear Mark, Every time I go onto the Roseland Online homepage, I get an annoying advert from an insurance company. Why is this and what can I do about it? Peter, Veryan.

Mark Says:

Dear Peter. Roseland Online uses a useful 'free' tool which tracks the statistics of how many people visit the site, where they are from in the world, and many other 'stats' which are helpful to us in optimising our service to you. The problem is, the provider sells pop-ups (advertising banners) to third parties which 'pop-up' when the visitors log in. This allows them to keep this service free of charge to us.

An easy way to stop this happening is to switch on your Pop-up Blocker option in internet explorer. To do this, open internet explorer, click on 'tools' (just below the URL address line at the top) and in the 'pop-up blocker' drop down menu, select 'Turn On Pop-Up Blocker'. Please be aware though that some other websites you visit may need this enabled for you to continue using them. That said, you can always reverse this at any time if need be by reversing the process!
